Penhaligon Newsletter 20.01.17
Penhaligon have been extremely productive this week with their learning across the curriculum.
In literacy the children have written a character description for Elsa, the snow queen. They have identified the differences between fictional and non-fictional queens. The children have revised adjectives and learnt more about adverbs.
In maths the children have been subtracting single-digit numbers from two-digit numbers using their knowledge of place-value and number facts. They have also practiced their 2 times-table using a range of concepts to show how multiplying is repeated addition.
The children have continued their animations in computing. The children have learnt about life for children in Victorian times in book club and topic lessons. They were very shocked!
On Wednesday some children attended a futsal event at Treviglas. It is an alternative version to football. It is five aside, indoor and played with a heavier football. The sport derives from South America. The children represented the school fantastically well and played impressively, using the skills learnt in PE and KS1 football club.
Stars of the week: Bear and Ava have responded excellently to feedback, writing fantastic versions of Cinderella. Dexter impressed everyone with his resilience by confidently counting on and back in ones and tens. Well done to Bear, Dexter and Ava.
Reader of the week: Eva answered her comprehension questions in full sentences.
Spellings: this week's spellings are words that end in the suffix 'ful'.
Home-learning: this week's task is to design and write an invitation, see home learning books for instructions please.
Have a great weekend.
