Phonics & Spellings
This week my group have been learning the ‘wh’,‘aw’ and ‘ph’ sounds. Miss Hendra’s group have been learning the ‘or’, ‘ur’ and‘ow’ sounds. You might like to practise words with these sounds in at home. Our silly word this week has been ‘yub’. You might like to ask your child about the silly word and to segment it.
This week in History we have been learning about the different celebration events that we celebrate throughout the year. The children discussed and made mind maps showing all of the celebration events they knew about. For homework this week I would like the children to write about their favourite celebration. I would like all children to write at least a sentence explaining which celebration is their favourite and why. They might like to draw a picture of them at the event.
· Talk to your child about all of the different celebrations they have learnt about.
· Discuss which one is their favourite and why.
· Help your child to say the sentence out loud before they write it down.
· Encourage your child to sound out the words they want to use in their writing.
· Ask your child what every sentence needs to begin with and end with, to encourage them to remember their capital letters and full stops.
· As an extra challenge your child might like to pick a celebration and explain what it is and how it is celebrated.
Rehearsals have begun for our Christmas play. Thank you for helping your children to learn their lines, all of their hard work is paying off! Please could all children bring their costumes in on Monday the 1 st December in a labelled bag which is to be put on their peg. Any costumes brought in need to be clearly labelled please. If you are unsure about what your child should be wearing please comeand see any member of the team. If your child is a shepherd they will need to wear either black, grey or brown trousers and a top as we have items to be worn on top.
Thank you to everyone who has shared their child’s wow moments this week. It’s great to be able to share special achievements at home in the classroom and the children are very proud to do so. Keep your eyeout for any special moments.
