Session 9
Today we spent the morning on The Mount, this is the last session before the day of the performance! The children have all become under-studies and seem to know each other's parts! We are working on our props and costumes. We are very busy!
Session 8
The children seem so focused today, they have worked so hard today and seem to be thoroughly enjoying it. They have worked fantastically together both year 3 and 4 . In fact you wouldn't know who was in which year! They seem to have taken the lead now completely in working out what each other need to say and how to take the role as an invader acting fierce and as a settler also

Session 7
Today we had been outside all day again and what a difference it was. Now we have noticed more and more children want a speaking role and are constantly putting forward their ideas as which direction the play should go in. They are listening more to each other and are responding appropriately in role. We are working on projecting our voices outside and are literally shouting !We have many scenes in our play so there is a lot of movement from the playground to the huts.

Session 5
Today the children had to use their ideas again to take the story forward, -how creative the children are! The children are now listening to each carefully and are responding as if they are in role. It is interesting to see the quiet children really come out and take on their part without feeling worried or anxious.
The children love being outside and can see how important it is to project their voice. I'm amazed at how creative we can be in using our school grounds to create different scenes from the play. We have started to organise the props and costumes so are looking forward to help from our parents.
Session 4
This was our first session after half term and so it was hard for the children to get going today!!! A lot of children needed reminding to listen.
Lots of the children had some very good ideas for the story-I'm very impressed at how the class have linked ideas together and thought about what they know about the Saxons.
After story planning, the class spilt into two groups, they had to create a scenario to form part of the class story. They then had to create freeze frames to tell their part of the story. Two groups really struggled to put their ideas together as they distracted each other and didn't stay on task. After help from the adults, the groups then struggled to negotiate their ideas and some children took the lead to organise the groups.
Campbell used 'forum theatre' to help the groups-this used the audience to direct the group.
The class worked again on their invaders statements and developed the story even further. The class now have a brother and sister who fell out in the tribe...spilting the tribe in two!! There is also a potion involved!! (I don't want to give too much away). The voice projection was much better today, the class are really working together much better...I can;t wait to see how this develops when we go outside...will they be able to keep their voices loud and together as a class....?!!

Session 3
Campbell helped us to build our confidence in singing today by encouraging us to have a go.
We planned some more of our story and talked about the mount by our school. We were very impressed with the children's ideas!!
Year 4 are going to be invaders.... Campbell helped us to think of ways we could appear united and fierce by us all saying statements as a group. It was really hard to make our voices loud outside so we had to keep repeating the task-we had to remember to listen carefully to other children.
I think we've got lots of things to work on but it's very exciting!!

Session 2
What a busy session!! The children have done lots of work today and really impressed us with their knowledge of the Anglo-Saxons!!
We were taught a new song today which helped us to warm up our voices. A lot of the children found it difficult to sing in front of the others and got very embarrassed. In our evaluation, the class decided that this was something they can work on. They also want to start respecting each other's work a little bit more-which we think is a very good idea!!
We talked about invaders and settlers today and began planning our story. We thought about how the Anglo-Saxons were different.
Our group work was better today-we worked on creating freeze frames to show what our tribe is good at-some of us still struggled to negotiate so I hope I will see the quieter children having a much stronger voice in their group work in future. We also struggled to get into our groups without a fuss as most children wanted to work with their friends-Campbell is helping us to work with new people.
Once we had done some work in the hall, we went outside to complete our freeze frames and add a sentence. It was amazing to see how differently the children worked outside, most of them got very distracted and needed lots of reminders to stay on task.
The children felt that they need to listen very carefully outside and try to use a much louder voice...I think they evaluated their session very well!!

Session 1
It has been really interesting watching the children work together with Campbell today. I was able to see who listens really carefully and who talks about their ideas.
When the children worked in groups, it was clear that the children didn't like to sit with boys and girls mixed together. They also chose people they like working with rather than working with people they hadn't worked with before.
The children enjoyed making their own tribal greeting and making 'moving objects' in their groups-so much so that they found it difficult to stop and listen when they were asked to!! Some groups struggled to negotiate and so when they were asked to show their work to the class they had to think up something very quickly. I think this is something we can work on.
