Ourselves & Smell / Advent

The nativity is now just around the corner and we can't wait for you to see just how wonderful the Foundation Christmas nativity, 'A Donkey's Tale', is! Thank you to all the parents/carers/grandparents for all your support with helping your child to learn the songs and their lines if they have any.

In addition to nativity rehearsals the children have been learning about a very important sense, the sense of smell. We explored different smells using smell pots and the children tried to identify the following smells: peppermint, vanilla, lemon and water. We also talked about things that smell good, things that smell bad and smells that mean danger. We decided that our sense of smell is very useful!

To celebrate Advent the children worked together to create our Advent tree. The children each produced some green and sparkly hand prints, then the children used and named some 2D shapes to draw around to make the baubles. Finally the children wrote the numbers on the baubles. Each day, one Tiger and one Giraffe child will be chosen to find the advent number and turn over the bauble to reveal a Chrismas picture. They will then have a golden chocolate coin placed in their wallet to enjoy at home. In Foundation 2 the children have also been exploring doubling using objects and 3D shape by wrapping 'presents'.

The countdown to Christmas has definitely begun and we hope your child enjoys making Santa's Advent beard, please check in your child's wallet as this is their challenge work until Christmas.
