Default settings for new documents

A new j2e document will open with some default settings, such as font and type size. You may customise these settings to suit yourself. In a school environment, you may have settings for the whole school, for a class or for an individual.

Settings for an individual
These may be found by clicking on your user name on the top left of the button bar, clicking on my settings..., and then on the my defaults tab.

Changing any value in this tab will change your default settings for new documents. If you press reset, then the settings will change back to the standard j2e settings.

Settings for a school, class and pupil
With a school account the settings cascade from school, to class, to pupil. Teachers and administrators will find some extra tabs in their my settings. On the school tab, is a button school settings. This will lead to a new window where default settings for the whole school may be set. These school settings are used for any new document in the school, unless some class or pupil settings exist, when they would be used instead.

Administrators and teachers also have a classes tab. Select a class from the list, and press on the class settings button. If class settings are changed, they will override the school settings for new documents for any pupils in that class. That is unless a pupil has their own settings.

A pupil may set their own defaults in the same way as Settings for an individual above. An administrator or teacher may also change the settings for a particular pupil. Go to the users tab in the settings window. Select a user from the list, and press defaults. Change the settings in the window that opens.

As an example, a primary school might set the school defaults for type to Comic Sans, size 12. However this is a little small for class 1, so class 1 might choose Comic Sans, size 16.
Also the class 6 teacher may feel that Comic Sans is too young for her pupils, so she might set class 6 settings to Tahoma, size 12.

Resetting defaults
On all of these window a reset button exists.

For an individual, reset will make the defaults the j2e settings.
For a pupil, reset will make the defaults class settings, if they exist.
For a class, reset will make the defaults school settings, if they exist.
For a school, reset will make the defaults the j2e settings.
