Blogging
A blog is a user-generated website where entries are made in journal style and displayed in reverse chronological order. The term 'blog' is derived from 'Web log' - an online diary.
There are many free blogging sites available but we recommend the blogging service provided by Peter Ford and available through Partnership Matters (www.partnershipmatters.co.uk). It provides full security for schools and up to 100 weblogs hosted with a common domain name as well as help with the setting up and ongoing support.
The cost is £200 per annum for a Primary School and e-learning credits can be used.
Wikipedia
A wiki (from the Hawaiian wikiwiki meaning quick) is a website that allows visitors to add, remove and edit the available content. The idea has been taken to it's logical conclusion with Wikipedia - an online encyclopedia created and built by users.
Along the same lines are Wiktionary - an online dictionary in 389 languages and Wikisaurus the most recent addition.
All the above, and more, can be found at www.wikipedia.org.
Assessment
All the advantages of online software can also be gained through use of the Incerts assessment programme. It can be accessed from anywhere, always uses the latest version and is backed up by the Incerts team.
It also saves a huge amount of time because reports that contain comments based on teacher assessment can be downloaded as Microsoft Word files, added to and altered.
More information from incerts.co.uk or Partnership Matters or Lexicon Lifeline.

Calendars
Online calendars have obvious uses for any organisation. Google Calendars is very easy to setup and very flexible. Calendars can be shared with other users who can be allowed to see full information or just times when you are busy. Appointments can also be imported from Outlook.
Google calendars can be found at www.google.com/calendar.
Lessons and Courses
Moodle is the leading online e-learning platform. It enables teachers and schools to create online courses with opportunities for interaction. The software itself is open-source - effectively free but a Moodle has to be hosted, setup and supported. Partnership Matters offer a complete service from the MoodleStick which enables Moodle to be evaluated up to a complete hosting service (Moodlespace SL).
If you want more information or a demonstration of what is possible with Moodle then please get in touch.
School Link
Save the Children
Save the Children have asked us to promote their School Link website (www.school-link.org.uk) and Friendship Friday on 25th May 2007.
By signing up to school Link, schools will gain access to a dedicated website containing information, lesson plans, interactive games, video clips, audio and photo libraries as well as many other educational resources that can be used to deliver an interesting and stimulating Global themed project or form the basis of a Geography or Citizenship scheme of work.
In addition, School Link also provides pupils with the tools to take action and make a difference to the lives of the children, like those that they have been learning about, by taking part in Save the Children’s annual fundraising day, Friendship Friday.
