News from Becta
Windows Vista.
Becta have commissioned a report on the deployment of Windows Vista and Office 2007 into schools. The interim report can be found here. The final report is due to be published in January.

The main recommendation is: "The new features of Vista add value but do not justify early deployment in the educational ICT estate. Educational institutions are strongly advised to consider the findings of Becta’s final report on Vista before considering any wide-scale deployment.
If any institution has a need for early deployment, it should ensure that it has fully and carefully considered the issues identified in this interim report including the technical, financial, and organisational implications for the institution, of any proposed deployment.

Technician Training
We are intending to hold some technician training courses in the new year. In order that those who have already been on a course as well as 'first-timers' can gain more knowledge we are intending to offer modular courses.

Currently the list includes, 'active directory, users and group policies', 'removing viruses and spyware', 'installing software', and 'printers'. If you would like more information then fill in this form. Lifeline subscribers will take precedence.

The courses will probably be held at Winton Primary School in Bournemouth.

Have a good holiday.
Just 2 Easy
Some more new features have been added to Just 2 Easy, the most significant being that files can now be saved in html (this page is an example). That means that Java is not required to read pages making J2e by far the easiest way to create web pages and web sites.

Remember that all Lifeline schools can subscribe to j2e free of charge.
