Server Prices
In our last newsletter we mentioned that 'the price of servers has remained fairly constant'. We spoke too soon. The price of Fujitsu-Siemens servers has increased by about 17% from the 1st December. Apparently this has largely been caused by the fall in the value of sterling. If we have quoted for servers in the recent past then it may still be possible to supply them at the quoted price as there is still some stock at the older (lower) price but it will probably go in the next week to 10 days.
On a brighter note the 5 year on-site warranty offer on the TX range of servers is still in place.
Staff Laptops
In the last newsletter we advertised the Esprimo Mobile V5535 laptop as being ideal as a teacher laptop. A newer model is now out (naturally at a slightly higher price) but it does have a faster processor and twice the memory (2gb).

Disgo Video Recorder
All good things must come to an end.
The Disgo Video Plus is no more. It
will be replaced in the first few months
of 2009 by the Disgo Video Live
which has more features and longer
recording time. Among the extra features
is the ability to take still pictures.

the capability of being able to record
up to 16 hours of video with the
addition of an 8gb SD card. It also

Amilo Mini
Following the release of the Asus EEEPC mini notebook about a year ago there has been a flurry of other manufacturers trying to 'catch up'.
Fujitsu-Siemens have just released
the Amilo Mini Ui 3520 which
measures 32.2 cm (12.5 inch) by
17.5cm (6.9 inch) with a screen
size of 22.6cm (8.9 inch). It has 1gb
of memory, a 60gb hard drive,
inbuilt microphone and webcam,
wired and wireless networking and a battery life of between 2.5 and 4 hours. It comes pre-loaded with Windows XP Home and can be upgraded to XP Pro if the appropriate licence is purchased
Pupil Laptops
The current offering on laptops for use by pupils is the Fujitsu-Siemens Esprimo Mobile M9410 with a 14.1" screen, Intel Celeron processor, 1gb memory, 120gb hard drive, LAN and wireless networking and a 2nd battery giving 10 hours of battery life. It is supplied with Vista Business which can easily be downgraded to XP Pro.

The Stable Family Home Trust is a charity that provides a range of flexible and creative services to people with learning disabilities and their families.They are looking for a volunteer (or volunteers) to assist with ICT support to clients.
