You tube
We are frequently asked if it is possible to show Youtube videos in school. One option is to use TeacherTube which should not be filtered.
Alternatively youtube videos can be downloaded on a home computer using the latest version of Real Player. Once installed you can click the right button over a youtube video and on the menu is the option to 'Download to Real Player'.
Once the file has been downloaded click on My Library, then right button over the file in the library and click on 'Locate File'. This opens up a file window and it can be copied to a memory stick.
Once in school either use Real Player to play it back or download Applian FLV Player.

New team member
We are delighted to announce that we have appointed a new member to our team. Caroline Townend comes from a background of working on help-desks for a number of large organisations.
We are sure she will be a valuable addition to our team and you will no doubt be meeting her in the near future.
Caroline starts work with us on November 23rd.
Wireless N
After more than 6 years of work the new wireless networking protocol (802.11n) has finally been ratified. It offers much higher speeds than previous wireless protocols - up to 300 megabits per second (and even higher speeds are possible).
It also has a larger range - up to 70m inside buildings and up to 250m outside.
We would advise schools considering installing or upgrading a wireless network to wait until the new year when more manufacturers will have released access points that support wireless n. The Samsung netbooks (opposite) have wireless n capability.
Windows 7
Windows 7 was released on time on October 22nd. New computers and laptops that have licences for Windows 7 Professional will also be licenced for Windows XP Pro.
We have not yet had time to test all the educational software on Windows 7. We are advising that schools wait a few months before installing Windows 7 so that we can complete our testing.
Just 2 Easy news
Following on from the addition of sound and symbols, j2e now features teacher mark-up. This allows teachers to add 'stickers' commenting on children's work. Once the pupil has read the comment they can delete it but a record is kept in the revision of the file. This is a very powerful feature that enables teachers to help pupils refine and improve their writing.
Additionally pupils can add 'pins' to their own work as reminders.
Music Online
Those of you who attended the 'online workshop' will be aware of the concern expressed with regards to the adverts on ESP Music Online. The good news is that these have now been removed. You can try it out using the username 'lexiconcourse' and the password 'lifeline'.
ESP Music Online subscriptions cost 50p per pupil for an annual subscription but if purchased through us it is only 40p per pupil.
