PE and Sport Premium for Primary Schools

Background

In April 2013, the Government announced new funding of £150 million for physical education (PE) and sport. This funding should be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and Sport.

From September 2013 primary schools received an additional £8,000 (plus £5 per pupil between the ages of 5-11 years) to improve the quality of sport and PE for all their children. At Sandfield Close our annual allocation for the academic year 2015-16 is just over £9,500.

Schools are free to determine how best to use this funding to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels of which they are capable.

PE and Sport at Sandfield Close  Primary School

PE and Sport play a very important part in the life of Sandfield Close. We believe that physical education and sport contribute to the holistic development of our pupils and through participation in sport and physical education, our pupils learn more about key values such as teamwork, fair play and respect for themselves and others. We are also committed to encouraging physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle.

We follow the 2014 National curriculum and children in Year 1-6 have two PE lessons per week.

F2 children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. They play outside every day and have one PE lesson per week in the school hall. Daily Activate sessions increase children's physical activity.

From November 2014 we will be encouraging as many children and families as possible to walk to school to increase physical activity and promote healthy lifestyles.
