School Prospectus 2009-10

Dear Parents and Children

I am pleased to be able to supply you with this copy of our prospectus, which I hope will inform you about the school and answer many of the questions you may have and give you a feel for the school. We are always delighted to show parents and children around, and welcome new families to StokesSchool. If you would like to visit the school, please do not hesitate to make an appointment with our Secretary, Mrs McDonald.

Children:  All the staff at the school will do everything they can to ensure your time with us will give you a real and lasting enjoyment of learning to the highest level you can achieve.

Parents:  Everyone will be pleased to see parents in school.  You are always welcome to see the school at work, help in the classroom or discuss your child's progress.

Children and Parents:  As a great deal of time is spent at school, it is important that it is spent purposefully and happily.  Everyone here works hard to promote a relaxed, happy atmosphere where everyone is highly valued as an individual and as part of our school community.

Parents:  Since great importance is attached to the links between home and school, your regular support, involvement and presence in the school will be of great value to your child and all the other children, and will be much appreciated.  It is only through a co-operative effort made by the parents and the teachers that your child will make the most of the many and varied opportunities we offer.  Whilst we work hard to nurture children's abilities and share their delight in their achievements, we also seek to develop values and standards that will serve them throughout their whole lives. Although we have many children at the school, we maintain the security, warmth and care associated with a family unit.  My staff and I will do our utmost to meet the educational and pastoral needs of your child.

Children and Parents:  I hope that your links with the school, as pupil or parent, will be happy during these vital, exciting and interesting years. The overriding features of the school are a striving for excellence and a warm welcome to everyone in the community associated with StokesSchool.

Parents: We were pleased with both our last OFSTED inspection and Inspection of Collective Worship reports and copies are available for parents to view at the school office. OFSTED noted that, “It is an incredibly warm and welcoming place where children are given space to grow and develop into healthy young people.”

Blaby Stokes C.E. Primary is extremely proud to be the first, and only, school in Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland to be accredited with the prestigious National Activemark Gold Award from Sport England for the second time. This award is a celebration of the investment made in pupils’ health and well-being through physical activity and sport. It also recognizes its commitment in offering a quality programme of physical education and sport for its pupils. Our third Healthy Schools Award (the National Healthy Schools Status accredited in January 2007)acknowledges our pupils’ good understanding of leading a healthy lifestyle.

Similarly our Eco Schools awards are a testament to the range of projects the children have been involved in to keep our school environment a pleasure to be in, in addition to safeguarding resources such as electricity and water and recycling materials.

In the Autumn term 2006 we were recognized, once again, as an Investor in People.  The report was a glowing reflection of the supportive team culture that exists within the school whereby both teaching and non-teaching staff are encouraged in their development by a strong senior management team that is well supported by its Governing body. As a result it concludes “ this generates a very welcoming atmosphere for staff, the children and their parents. Indeed staff do more than they are contracted to.”

We look forward to welcoming your child to Stokes.

Yours sincerely

Mr Chris Meadows
