Phiedippides
and the Battle of Marathon
He was the only runner during the Battle of Marathon . For training he ran to Sparta from Athens and back.
After for the marathon he did the same thing.
The war was between the Persian and the Greeks . The Persians had around 20,000 men and the Greek army had around 10,000 men mostly from Athens . The Persians wanted to conquer Greece . Phiedippidis was famous for running for 2 days and 2 nights . At the end of the marathon Phiedippides died of exhaustion .

The war lasted for around 9 years from 490 bc - 449 bc .
They tried making Greece part of the Persia. In the end the Greeks defeated the Persians with Alexander the great in charge in 330BC . The Persians were led by king Darius
and were finally defeated after 41 years of blood guts and gore . The Athenian army asked the Spartans to help because they thought they were fierce warriors . They sent a really fast marathon runner to ask them. Phiedippidis ran to Sparta and back to Athens . The Persians wanted to invade one of the best cities in the world . The battle took place on September 17th . The Greeks were better fighters than the Persian fighters .
Thousands of brave warriors died in this unforgettable war .The Greeks had a amazing tactic for the time, they attacked from the sides and and from the back . The Greeks attacked from a hill and charged down . They were victorious
The Athenians were more powerful than the weak Persian army. That is how they won this historical battle . At the end of the battle the Persians who didn't die retreated .
For the marathon Phiedippidis had to run 25 miles after doing 150 miles of training . It wasn't going to be easy for him and it wasn't easy because he died at the end.
In this picture it shows how the Greeks killed them and what they wore .
The Greeks killed the Persians without any effort but the war was 41 years long .
In my opinion the Greeks deserved the victory .
