Skulduggery Pleasant is a detective and one of two main characters from the book Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy. He is an Elemental sorcerer (who has a little influence over water, earth, fire and wind or air) who help his partner (a now 24-year-old girl called Valkyrie) save the world. What makes him cool, is that he is a skeleton who has lived for roughly 450 years. He lives in a world of fighting, dying and violence between different mages. Despite that, it is still set in the very same world we live in.

APPEARANCE

In the books, Skulduggery is known for of course, being a skeleton but also for dressing up in exquisite 3-piece suits – a shirt, a tie

and a pair of chinos all made by the Taylor (also one of his best friends) Ghastly Bespoke. In book ten (Resurrection) the author describes him: ‘Tall and slim, wearing a three- piece suit, black shirt and black tie. He didn’t feelthe cold so didn’t bother with a coat.' However, he can’t go around showing mortals (people that don’t know about magic) that he’s a skeleton, so he often

wears a façade. A façade is a pair of tattoos that are carved into your collarbones that give you a false face. To complete his usual appearance though, he must have a Smith and Wesson revolver with six bullets in the chamber. What makes look the way he is, is his top hat.

UNPOPUALR

Skulduggery Pleasant is a detective, and it is not obvious, but

he is kind and has saved everyone’s life at some point in their life. However, many people do not like him: ‘Everyone, it seemed, knew Skulduggery, but not all of them liked him. For every smile he got, there was at least one scowl.’ Most people do not like Skulduggery because of his reputation, which is being extremely big headed and always right. Therefore, his few friends (Ghastly, Valkyrie, Shudder) like him a lot. Obviously, the bad evil people (Serpine, Cadverous,

Scarab) hate him for arresting them.

HOW DOES HE CHANGE?

The reason Skulduggery changes is because of his young

partner, Valkyrie Cain. Originally, Skulduggery was a dangerous, angry and murderous skeleton who everyone on his bad side feared. As the series goes on, he isn’t as murderous and no less dangerous but protective to Valkyrie.

CONCLUSION

Skulduggery is an amazing character in my opinion. He is

brave, a skeleton and has sick powers. He also inspires me because his personality is cool, and he has a habit of arriving in the nick of time.
