They are also called sea stars and their scientific name is Asteroidea. Their average life span is about 35 years in the wild. They are 5kg and 12 cm tall. Sea stars aren't social creatures, but they will congregate in large groups during certain times of the year to feed.

The starfish eat meat

because they are carnivores.

They also eat mollusks such

as calms, oysters and snails.

They are invertebrates. Most sea stars sport spiny skin and five arms, although some can grow as many as 50 arms.

Sea stars can live in every type of habitat including tidal

pools, rocky shores, sea grass, kelp beds and coral reefs.
