Dosbarth Venus-Homework

The children will receive a pink homework book in which their weekly spelling sentences or spelling challenge can be completed. They will have spelling lists for the coming six weeks inside their book along with a list of challenges. The children will be expected to write out their spelling list and either choose a spelling challenge to complete or to write sentences including their spellings.

Homework will be due in on a Friday and we will test the children on their spellings every Friday. Please do challenge 8 for the first spelling week.

There are 10 words on each list. The lists are differentiated so not all children have the same spellings; they have been assessed on their spellings and these are the spellings they need to work on (including letters written the correct way).

There will be additional Maths or English homework when appropriate. J2Blast on Hwb is excellent for times tables development.

Half termly project (Due Monday 22nd October):

Our topic is 'Flying High!' so after discussion with the children, the choices are (pick one):

1. Research a flying/gliding animal (flying squirrel/ frog/ snake/ gecko/ birds/ bats etc) and create a report. Include report features such as those on the reverse of this letter.

2. Find out more about amazing flying machines such as drones, jets, hot air balloons etc. Show what you have learnt about them either in a report or in an information poster.

3. Design your own amazing flying machine! Label your drawing , explaining the different parts clearly. Explain how it stays in the air.

4. Write about an experience you have had flying (going on holiday, Swansea airshow etc). Be as descriptive as you can by including lots of lovely adjectives and feelings that you had at the time.

Reading books

The children will bring a reading book and reading diary home in the coming days. They will be allocated a day in which they will need to bring their book to school. Please try to read with or to your child regularly, a few minutes can make a big difference and help to foster a love of reading.

Please see me if you have any further questions about homework or reading,
