Year 3 Curriculum Information

Autumn Term 2018

Our first topic will be The Stone Age. Our visit to Cresswell Crags in October will support our learning in this area.

We will begin the term by focusing on the book 'Cliffhanger' by Jaqueline Wilson. We will look at different text types, including letters and postcards, diary entries and adverts.

We will begin by focusing on number and place value before practicing adding and subtracting. We will learn to tell the time with increasing accuracy and we will identify, describe and sort 3D shapes. In the second half of the term, we will work on doubling and halving.

We will learn about rocks, soils and fossils as well as develop our scientific skills.

We will compare and contrast our life in 2018 with the life of Stone Age people.

We will look at the art work and sculptures of british artist Andy Goldsworthy, before creating our own. We will also make cave paintings like the Stone Age people did.

Year 3 will take part in swimming lessons on Friday afternoons between September and February. P.E will also take place on Monday afternoons.

We will learn how people of different faiths welcome the birth of a child.

Reading homework must be completed and returned on Mondays.

Parents group is on Thursdays 8:35-9:00 am.

Spelling tests will be on Thursdays.
