The Death
Bringer

SLAM!  The door banged shut and in ran David Barrow shouting he had found a dead body!  He clutched a body-bag closely to his chest and claimed to have found his best mate Jack Spud!

David Barrow, thought hard about who he should invite to Jack’s funeral, he had decided on three of his school friends since Jack didn’t have any family.  Jack was an orphan because his mother had died giving birth to him and his father died when Jack was three.  The three school friends were going to be Ryan West, Sam Smith and Greg Baker it would be a nice quiet funeral.  It was being held on the island of St Mary in the Isle of Scilly, where Jack and his friends had gone to school and grown up, before leaving the island to lead new lives in England.  David was going to lead the funeral as vicar.

It was two days before the funeral when the three friends arrived.  Ryan was going to stay with his parents, Sam had booked a hotel and Greg had a holiday home on the island that he could stay in.  The boys had actually never been Jack’s friends, calling him names like Spuddy, but a free excuse for a holiday was just the right thing to persuade them to come.

Mandy sighed; she had just come back from an adventurous crime and was so glad that she could finally have a break.  She’d kept herself up, researching for the last few nights so that she could solve the crime.  The reason she had come to the island of St Mary’s was because it was a nice, peaceful, relaxing place with lots of good beaches and fantastic holiday resorts.  After she had un-packed her clothes Mandy sunk down onto a soft, pink, velvet sofa and switched on the T.V.  Suddenly, a nightmare struck.  No more relaxing break for Mandy...

“Newsflash, a 31 year-old man, Ryan West, has been murdered.  It was said to of been around 2:00am when he died.  But this is no ordinary death, over to you Katie.”

“Thanks Fred.  I’m at Ryan’s helping the police on a search for clues.  This unfortunate death was not at all normal!  This wa-”       Mandy gasped.  On the screen in front of her were the words, ‘DEATH BRINGER’ written in... Blood!    As quick as a flash, Mandy jumped up and ran!  She got all her kit together, rushed outside, called for a taxi and in less than 5 minutes she was standing outside of Mr.West’s house.  “Sir, excuse me Sir,” called Mandy.  The police man swung round “Yes?”

Mandy showed him a card that told him that she had once done a case for the police; this was to try and get her access into the house.  After a little sweet talk to the police man she was in.  Note-pad ready and torch out, she never knew what interesting facts she could come across!  Later that night Mandy examined the clues, “Mmmmm” she thought…

“Ahhhhhhh!”  Mandy awoke to find herself lying on the floor.

“What’s going on?”   Mandy whizzed around.  There, stood behind her was David Barrow!  “Who,” she stammered “are you?”

“Oh, sorry dear, I’m David Barrow, Emergency help line officer,” he announced.

“Pleased to meet you,” explained Mandy.  David checked his watch.

“I must be off now, pleasure meeting you, cheerio.” And he left.

‘He seemed like a nice man’ thought Mandy to herself.  Hurriedly, Mandy got on her gear, grabbed her ‘Navi-help’ and set off on a mission to find the shocking scream.  Off down the lane she went, she had to find who let out that piercing scream-and why?

After about ten minutes of walking, Mandy reached a mysterious looking house-all the windows were shut, there was no sign of movement.  Just a quiet, old house in the middle of no-where.  Mandy checked her ‘Navi-help.’  She thought it might help her find out where she was.  No luck-it shut down! Eagerly, Mandy stepped inside the house.  Not very interesting she thought-until…she walked up-stairs!  There, curled up on the floor, a knife trough his throat, lay Sam Smith.  Mandy was in shock.  She couldn’t believe her eyes!  She looked up, ‘DEATH BRINGER’…  Later that night, Mandy researched and researched and researched.  Nothing.  Who was this death bringer?

After reading a lot of books, Mandy decided to go to and see Greg Baker.  He was a friend of Jack Spuds and he might be able to help her solve the crime.  Mandy had managed to work out that, everyone who had died so far, were all-somehow related!  Once she’d met Greg, the two set off to buy some equipment; they needed it for the trap.  What they would do was, use Greg as bate and then as the killer comes, they would trap him and lock him up.  Catch him red-handed!

“Got ‘ya!” cried Mandy as she tied up the sack that the killer was in.  “Now, own up, ‘oo are ‘ya?” Greg screamed with an excited tone.  Hesitantly, the murderer explained that his name was David Barrow and that he had changed his name from Jack Spud because he had been bullied whilst at school at school and wanted to get his own back.  Although that Mandy understood him greatly, she decided that death had to be the punishment..!
