Inclusion

Identifying pupil's strengths and approach to learning is important to us at Cheswick Green Primary School. Understanding the way in which our pupils learn best supports us in planning motivating lessons as part of our enquiry based curriculum. .

We strive to provide an inclusive learning environment for all pupils attending our school and aim to provide good parent-school links for our families.

A Graduated Response
If you are concerned with any aspect of your child's progress, educational or personal, you should first arrange a meeting with your child's class teacher to discuss your concerns. It may then be decided to consult with the school SEN Co (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) who is responsible for supporting any additional needs within the school.
Parents may also contact the SEN Co if they need any support or advice in regards to additional needs.

Our Family Liason Worker is can offer advice and support and also arranges an Additional Needs Parent Support Group meeting each month with speakers from a variety of support groups. Please contact the school office for further details.

Stages of Special Educational Needs
School Action
If staff are concerned with the progress being made by a pupil, they may decide to consult with the SEN Co in order to put extra intervention in place to support them. At this point, teachers will discuss any actions with parents before writing an I.E.P (Individual Education Plan) outlining any interventions or steps of support.

This plan will detail the targets that the child will focus upon in the coming term and will be reviewed on a minimum termly basis.

School Action Plus
Once a child is placed at School Action, the SEN Co liases with teachers at IEP reviews to monitor the progress being made. At this point, the SEN Co may be consider that additional support is needed from S.I.S.S (Solihull's Specialist Support team) or from alternative services. Parents will be invited to a meeting to discuss the possibility of additional service advice. No referrals are ever made without parental consent.

Statements of Special Educational Need
If, despite school interventions and support, children continue to struggle to make progress, the SEN Co will liaise with parents and agencies involved with children to consider if a Statement of Special Educational Needs is appropriate. The process of completing this application is one which is done in consultation with all of those involved with pupils at our school and is considered very carefully.

Pupil Premium
Pupil Premium funding is carefully allocated to provide pupils with effective interventions to support good progress. These interventions focus on the overall progress of pupils are planned to focus not only on academic progress but also on personal, social and emotional development.

More Able, Gifted and Talented

Pupils identified as having particular talents exceeding those of their peers in particular areas. We value the importance of identifying and celebrating our pupils' interests and talents and believe that our approach to ensuring we meet every child's needs enables us to provide all children with the opportunity for challenge throughout their school life.More Able’ pupils are defined in our school as those who are working at two sub-levels in the statutory school curriculum above the average for their age.

'More Able' pupils are defined in our school as those who are working at two sub-levels in the statutory school curriculum above the average for their age.

‘Gifted’ pupils are defined in our school as those with particular abilities in one or more subjects of the statutory curriculum and consistently working a level above the average for their age. This includes the academic subjects such as Mathematics, English, Science or Languages.

‘Talented’ pupils are defined in our school as those with particular talents in the creative or performing arts such as art and design, music, PE, dance and drama.

At Cheswick Green Primary School we believe that many of these children will need no extra special attention because we offer a good, balanced and differentiated curriculum for all our pupils.
We organise special workshops to progress children's talents each half term with subject specialists. Their work is then showcased to the school.

For all pupils, lessons in school will be differentiated so that pupils are not only supported in their learning, but also that each individual child is stretched and challenged. The school will work to provide further support for more able and gifted and talented pupils through a good choice of before school, lunch time and
after-school 'clubs'. As some of these 'clubs' are run by coaches
and subject experts, there may be a charge.
We want all of our pupils to:

-Respect themselves, respect others, respect all property, and respect their community and the World around them.
-Have a positive attitude that encourages self-belief and confidence.
-Achieve high standards in all areas of the curriculum.
-Respond to challenges and seize new experiences
whole – heartedly.
-Take an active lead in their own learning and development throughout their life.
-Develop the spirit of enquiry leading to life-long learning.
