Drawings
The Seaforms seemed to come about by accident, as much of my work does—by chance. By blowing the pieces into ribbed molds, it gave them more strength. Then the Baskets started looking like sea forms, so I changed the name of the series to Seaforms, which suited me just fine in that I love to walk along the beach and go to the ocean. And glass itself, of course, is so much like water, it almost ends up looking like something that came from the sea.
-Chihuly

Chihuly enjoys the process of blowing glass, the spontaneity of it. It is the same with his drawings, they are full of energy reflected in swathes of colour, mapping the lines of shells
and other sea-forms.

"Watching the process of glass blowing and the effect of gravity on the hot and supple materials is like witnessing a time-lapse recording of proliferating sea life, the glass forms germinating like palpable living organisms."
