Lesson Plan
Introduction
Discuss with the pupils what a mascot means and if they know of any mascots. They may know of a football club mascot or be familiar with the mascot for 'Children in Need', Pudsey Bear. Look at the mascot designs that have been created already for the Olympics. What do the pupils think of these and the story behind them? Do they think they reflect the games in London?
Introduce the task – the pupils are going to create their own mascots for London Olympics and Paralympics 2012. Brainstorm ideas that could be included with the mascots that show a clear connection to the Olympics and London.
Main Task
Pupils should plan out their designs in sketch books and look for suitable images on the web. They then will design their mascots in J2E or JIT.
Remind the pupils to include the London 2012 logo.
Plenary
Review one or more of the new mascot designs – have the pupils stuck to the brief/task? Have they designed a mascot that shows what London 2012 is all about? What could they do to improve it?
