There are many talents in our year group. Three year four girls are in a horse riding club and compete in show jumping and racing in Woodlands view riding club and Marros Riding Club. There is also another young lady in Towy Riders and participates every Tuesday,Thursday and Saturday. She has competed in Cardiff, Pembrey and Hereford.

We also have a young man in Year 4 who made it through to the semi-finals of the Urdd swimming competition, but narrowly missed the chance to compete in the final.

There is also a young lady who likes to go ballroom dancing. She has an exam in May and hopes to pass and become a professional ballroom dancer when she grows up.

Drama activities are popular and many children in Year 4 attend drama groups in the locality. Some girls are enjoying the challenges of competing in twirling, ballet and cheerleading events too.

Forthcoming Events

This half term our creative Year 4 pupils have been studying Castles and Dragons.

It began with a big climb up to Llansteffan Castle in the autumn and followed with a visit to Carmarthen Castle in February.

We have been looking at features of castles and making sketches. We have also had home learning to create a myths and legends short version of a welsh folk tale. We heard stories about King Arthur and Merlin, and their connection to Carmarthen. We made 2015 calendars depicting castles and dragons.

We wrote a welsh recount of our castle visit to Castell Caerfyrddin.

A visit to the library gave us an opportunity to choose two books each to take home.

In preparation for Dydd Gwyl Dewi (Saint David's Day) we painted watercolour castles for the art competition.

In the morning, at break time, Mrs. L Jones sold 400 welsh cakes - they were delicious! The year 5 pupils led the Saint David's day celebration on February 27th and children from yr 1 - 6 completed art and hand-writing for the school competions. The orchestra opened the procedings and we sang many welsh songs. The year 5 children performed some folk dancing and then it was time for the chairing of the bard, the forth bard from our school. Some beautifully dressed Year 5 girls performed the flower dance, and the proceedings concluded with the Welsh National Anthem. Click here for a youtube video of a stadium crowd singing the anthem.
