County Tyrone

County Tyrone is known as "The Red Hand County" because of its symbol, the Red Hand of Ulster.


It's one of the six counties in Northern Ireland and is located in the west of the island of Ireland.


It's the largest county in Northern Ireland by area, covering 1,261 square miles.


The highest point in County Tyrone is Sawel Mountain, which is 678 meters tall.


The main town is Omagh, which is the county town.


County Tyrone borders Lough Neagh, the largest lake in the British Isles.


It has many ancient sites, including the Beaghmore Stone Circles, which are mysterious stone formations.


The River Blackwater and the River Foyle are two important rivers that flow through County Tyrone.


Brian Friel, a famous playwright, was born in County Tyrone.


County Tyrone borders the following counties County Londonderry to the north, County Fermanagh to the southwest, County Monaghan to the south (in the Republic of Ireland), County Armagh to the southeast, County Donegal to the west (in the Republic of Ireland) and County Antrim across Lough Neagh to the east.
