Rebel with a cause? A lovable rogue who defies the establishment and unearths the truth behind the lies? A story of disenchantment and discovery, payback and partying, secrets and sinister sidekicks?
It has to be The Children Are Revolting by Jon Turley...
Disgruntled at the stifling conditions inside their Private School, and after discovering that the Headmaster is embezzling the school fee money, a band of boy and girl students mastermind a rowdy, rumbumptious revolt.
In hilarious fashion, Arty Fox and his ‘Barmy Army’ capture the teachers and take over the school. Then, as a form of payback, they send the teachers ‘back to school’ by making them participate in lessons, all of which have a host of comical surprises added.
During this time, the students uncover a huge secret - the reason why the Head is embezzling the cash - he is being held to ransom by a local gangster. The Head owes him so much money, he simply has to steal the school fees to pay the debt back.
So, to save their beloved school, the students set the gangster up and plan to get rid of the debt forever. They con him in to thinking he can steal a million pounds, sitting in the school safe, during the upcoming Easter Fayre. To catch him red-handed, they rig events to their advantage but, on the day, their plans hit many snags along the way. Tension mounts minute by minute as things spiral out of control and all hope seems lost.
However, as fate would have it, they eventually succeed. The school is freed, the atmosphere is jubilant and the student revolt becomes nothing more than a legendary myth, lost in folklore. The Headmaster, however, is not about to forget recent events in a hurry…

The Children Are Revolting offers a fast-paced and action-packed story with a gripping and unexpected sub-plot. The rebellion is fresh, vibrant, funny and exciting. The book pitches the action and humour at exactly the right level - fast, furious, crazy, fun - but always with a tongue-in-cheek and comical touch that takes away any unwanted abrasiveness.
The story does not follow one continuous timeline. It starts with a bang in the middle of the revolt then jumps back in time to allow the audience to piece the jigsaw puzzle together. The characters are varied, lovable, real and identifiable - the banter between them is fantastic!
This story, simply put, is a total package. It packs a punch with audiences of all ages.
