This week in White Class, we have been using Talk for Writing techniques to memorise a Viking Saga. This is what we did...

First, we read the story a few times and then we put the key events into a story mountain which helps us understand which part of the story is the beginning, which is the middle and which is the ending.

After that, we each created a story map showing the key events in the story.

Once we had done this, we worked together as a whole class to come up with actions that would help us retell the story in our own words. Alongside the actions we have created, we have been focusing on remembering to link our story ideas with conjunctions (like the words in green in this blog post). The Talk for Writing Scheme has some ready-made actions for a range of conjunctions and we have learned quite a few this week already.

Finally, we have made a video of our first retelling for you to watch. We are pretty proud of what we have achieved in just three lessons! We hope you enjoy our story. Feel free to leave a comment - we LOVE to read them in class.
