Tuesday, 23rd February

Well that was one of the best days ever! I went to The RisingSun Country Park on a school trip with my lovely friends in White Class. I was really excited about the trip and when we arrived I wasn’t disappointed – the sun was shining and the park was massive with lots of places for us to explore.

When we arrived we went to the visitor centre and left our packed lunches. We met our guide Gavin, who was going to show us around for theday. I was a little nervous about going outside because it was quite cold but the sun was shining and I had my big coat on so I decided to be brave.

After that, we walked to the woods where we worked in teams to use a map and find things in the woodland. We had lots of fun doing that and took it in turns to read the map and run ahead to look for the objects that Gavin had left for us to find. There were even some runes there that we used to make a Viking medal to remember our adventures.

Unfortunately, poor Sophie tripped and fell into a puddle which meant her jeans got wet. Luckily for her, I was wearing two pairs of trousers so I gave one to her to wear. I don’t think she enjoyed wearing my waterproofs much – her jeans were much more fashionable!

Next, it was time for lunch so we headed back to the visitor centre. I was hungry and so glad that I had packed lots of sandwiches to eat. I had so many that I even shared some with Harris and Cameron who were very hungry too.

Before we knew it, it was time to head back out into the woods. On the way back to the wood we were so lucky to see the wild deer that lives at the Rising Sun. It was the first time I had seen a deer up close –that was a special moment for me.

The best bit of the whole day was building a den out of sticks that we found in the woods. We became Vikings when we went through the Owl’s Eye bridge and then we worked in teams to create a shelter using things we found in the wood. We had a great time and I thought my team did a great job.

I can’t wait to go back, I think my kids would love to do some den building too.The sticks are there in the woods all year round for people to use so the next sunny Saturday I am going to wrap up warm and set off on another adventure. What a terrific day it has been! I am looking forward to hearing which bits my class liked best tomorrow in school.
