Microsociety Blog week 1.
This week in microsociety we have been talking about 'Scarcity'. This means a limited amount of resources that we use, such as wood, plastic and metal. To really understand what this ment,we decided to play a game which involved this.
Scarcity
The game was called the shape game,we had been given names for our groups. There was group A,group B,group C,group D,group E and finally group F.In this case i was in group D;each group had one pack with a few items inside. My group had 2 counters,5 sheets of paper,1 pencil and 1 ruler to work with.We had to earn as many points as we could by either drawing a 10cm diamiter circle for 10 points or we could hand in a counter for 5 points or we could draw a 10cm square for also 5 points.
Group A and group B had the most resources which gave them a better chance of winning.Group C and group D had enough resources to earn a couple of points. On the other hand group E and group F were unlucky and could not do much with their resources. This is an example of the 1st and 3rd worlds, the 1st world had lots of useful resources but the 3rd world were not as lucky.
At the end of our lesson we read the story of 'JUSTENUF' and then discussed how the captain should of divided the resources equally. As a class we agreed that the younger children should get the most because eventually they will grow into adults in the future, were as adults have a shorter life time left.
Overall i have enjoyed our first lesson of Microsociety and i cant wait to see whats next.
