Habitats Desert - Jon Valletta
Which desert is the biggest and how hot does it get?
The largest of all deserts is the Sahara desert. In the Summer it is the hottest region as temperatures go from 30c° to 47c°.
How big is the Sahara Desert in kilometres?
It is somewhere near 9 million square kilometres.
Does anything live in the desert?
There lives cactus and some animals like a snake. The Desert Horned Viper is only 18 to 28 inches long but it still can kill you with its venomous fangs. Another animal is the scorpion. Scorpions are poisonous and it keeps all the poison in its tail, they are normally 2.5 inches an average size.
After the scorpion we have the camel. The camels store food and water in there
humps and it can travel from 75 to 120 miles a day.
Then the tarantula that at average is 2.75 inches. Even though tarantulas are venomous and painful they aren't considered dangerous to humans. In any case they are not easily provoked into biting.
Now we have another snake, the Cobra. A Cobra's adult size is 3 to 4 feet (1 to 1.2 metres). The Cobra cannot be another colour different then black. The Cobra has a small head and it has a short pointed tail.
Back to the cactus, the cactus is well suited to the desert because cactus can hold enough water to survive in the desert. Cactus can come in many different shapes, some examples are oval and cylinder. Cactus have spikes to help prevent losing water through evaporation and so they could be protected from animals.
