Habitatas Ocean - Naomi Bugeja
What is an ocean?
The ocean has been called the new frontier. The great body of water embracing the continents of the Earth is also known as the world ocean. Some people divide the world ocean into the North Pacific, South Pacific, North Atlantic, South Atlantic, Indian, Arctic, and Antarctic - a total of seven. The term seven seas, however, originated with medieval Arabic geographers who knew only the waters of Europe and Asia. Oceans cover more two - thirds of Earth's surface. The Gulf of Mexico is larger than most seas. Waves wash up on a beach along the coast of Brazil. An Ocean is a huge body of water. Oceans cover nearly 71 per cent of Earth surface. They contain almost 98 per cent of all the water on Earth. The five major oceans cover most of Earth's surface. The largest ocean animal is the blue whale and the colour fish swim through a coral reef.
Whale shark
The whale shark is the largest fish in the world. It us also an endangered species, which means that it is in danger of disappearing forever. The scientific name of the whale shark is Rhincondon typus. Whale sharks live in warm waters around the world. They are found in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian oceans. Whale sharks are 12 and 15 metres ( 39 to 49 feet) long, but they can grow as long as 18 metres ( 59 feet). They can weigh 20 tons. Whale sharks are blue, grey or brown on top, with pale yellow spots and stripes. Whale sharks swim very slowly. The young whale sharks care for themselves from the day they are born. The whale sharks can live from 60 to 100 years.
