The Snail and the Whale
The tiny snail together with the other snails in the flock was stuck to the smooth black rock. But the tiny snail with the itchy foot was not like the others. He really wished to sail round the world!
One night when the tide was high, a whale came close to the rock singing to the snail a wonderful song. The whale held its tail out for the snail to crawl on and go sail with him. They went near icebergs, mountains and golden sands. They also entered the caves where there were fish, sharks and octopus. The snail was amazed!
One day the whale lost his way. He was upset with the speedboats as they were running a race. The whale ended up on the shore as the tide slipped away. He couldn't move on the sand to go back to the sea! The snail felt helpless but wanted to do something to help. He entered a classroom and left a silvery trail on the blackboard saying 'save the whale'. The children in the classroom ran from school to fetch the firemen. They all went to keep the whale cool. The tide came back in to the bay and everyone started shouting 'hooray'.
The whale and the snail went back to the dock and told the other snails their wonderful tale and how the snail saved the life of the humpback whale. Once more, the whale held out his tail and all the snails set sail and sang on the tail of the whale!
