Charles Dickens


Charles Dickens was an English writer and social critic. He was born in Portsmouth. Dickens left school to work at a factory. Although he lacked education he edited weekly journals and wrote some novels. At the age of 20, Dickens was energetic and increasingly self-confident he wanted to become famous. Soon after his return to England Dickens began work on the first of his Christmas stories, A Christmas Carol. This was one of the most popular stories he had written. He died young at the age of 58.
