Cars - estimation, measuring and averages

Joe and I had a go at a challenge today involving filling a boat with cars to see how may it could hold before sinking.

He weighed 5 cars and I helped him to

understand how to get an average weight.

He then got to estimate the number of cars

Before testing his estimate out..

We used a tally to keep track whilst filling the boat.

We reviewed the outcome against the estimate.

We then made an estimate on the combined weight of the 20 cars it took to sink the boat - using our average weight per car from earlier.
