Circulatory System

The circulatory system is made up of blood, blood vessels (arteries, veins and capillaries) and your heart . The purpose of the circulatory system is to provide nutrients and oxygen to the tissues and to remove wastes from them . It is also about where the body fights germs . Did you know that your heart is almost the same size of your fist ?

The red blood cells carry oxygen and remove carbon dioxide from your body, transporting it to your lungs for you to exhale. Red blood cells are made inside your bones, in the bone marrow. They typically live for about 120 days, and then they die.

The white blood cells - also called leukocytes - help fight infections by attacking bacteria, viruses, and germs that invade the body. White blood cells originate in the bone in the bone marrow but circulate throughout the bloodstream.
