Jellyfish

1. Jellyfish are abnormal sea creatures.


2. Jellyfish have soft bodies and have no back bone.


3. You would think Jellyfish are related to fish but really Jellyfish are related to corals and sea anemones.


4. Different types of Jellyfish live in different places mainly Jellyfish are found in tropical and subtropical seas but the disk shaped ones found along the shoreline.


The Jellyfish life cycle


The Jellyfish life cycle begins with the egg. From the egg a larva hatches and swims for a small amount of time the larva settles in the deep sea and develops a body, a mouth, and tentacles. The structure develops and looks like a pile of saucers. A small amount of the segment stays attached to the structure. Some break out and become Jellyfish.


The danger to humans


Normal Jellyfish stings are painful but they are not deadly but a species called sea wasps are extremely dangerous to humans. Their poison is more harmful then snake venom. If a sea wasp stings you after a few minutes it can cause death. Sea wasps are located near the coasts of japan and northern Australia.
