Electricity conductors and insulators

Electricity is a type of energy fueled by the transfer of electrons from positive and negative points with a conductor.

Electricity cannot travel through each and every material. It can only travel through electrical conductors, like metals such as copper, silver, gold and aluminium which are known as electrical conductors. That's why metal is used in plugs to let electricity to transfer from the wall socket. In a light bulb the metal filament allows electricity and causes the light bulb to light up.

Some materials don't allow electricity to pass through them which are called electrical insulators. For example most non-metallic solids such as plastic, glass, air, rubber and wood which are used to cover materials that carry electricity.
