Life cycle of jellyfish

·       The lifecycle of the jellyfish consists of two phases,

Medusa and polyp

·   The medusa phase are the initial process .

·      It is  when the jellyfish float among the plankton.

This is the reproductive stage.

·     The eggs are fertilised from inside.

·       Then they develop and turn into free-swimming planula larvae.

·   After few days floating about in surface waters, the larvae stay to the bottom of

the sea, sticking themselves with each other at one end.

·       There they develop into the second phase: polyps.

The polyp phase is when the jellyfish are stuck to coastal reef.

·        They start to feed and grow.

·       In spring, some of the polyps start to bud off immature jellyfish.

These are known as ephyra larvae.

·     These grow into an adult jellyfish.
