Summer challenge 5

Yesterday, my sister suggested to go to the beach and we decided to take a book to read while sunbathing. I spread a beach towel on the golden smooth sand and sat down carefully with my book. As soon as I started to read the first sentences of the new chapter, I heard kids screaming while playing in the shallow water. They splashed the sea water and droplets fell onto my pages.

I tried to focus and started to read all over again but at that very same time, the ice cream van played its chime. Two women hurried to buy ice creams and when they ran by, they threw sand all over my towel. I started to loose patience.

I did my best to concentrate again when suddenly a dog chased a kitten. I struggled to ignore all the surroundings as I got easily distracted.

I went for a swim and when I felt calmer I tried to read the book. I laid down on the towel but I easily fell asleep. It was not until I heard my sister calling that I woke up and rubbed my eyes briskly. It was time to go back home.

I realised that reading a book at the beach wasn't that easy. I was astonished how my sister focused on her reading in such a noisy environment.
