BLACK HOLES

A black hole is a place in space where gravity is so strong that nothing can escape it not even light. Supermassive black holes can be found at the centre of most galaxies including our own.

The matter (any substance that has mass and takes up space by having volume) in a black hole is squeezed into one tiny point in its centre called a "singularity".

If a star comes too close, the gravity of a supermassive black hole will tear it apart. The debris slowly looses energy and spirals into the black hole.

Black holes may be created when the galaxies are forming, and they can be more massive than a billion Suns.
