Around 2,000 years ago Romans believed that there were some twin brothers called Romulus

and Remus. When the boys were just little baby's they were abandoned in a river to drown by their bad, evil uncle. Some time a wolf came and helped them out of the river. When they grew up they looked for their uncle and killed him for revenge. The twins then decided that they would make a city! But there was one problem, they fought about where the location of the city should be. Romulus said that the city should be on Palatine hill but Remus preferred The Aventine hill. To try and find out who was going to choose the location the twins looked for a sign from the gods above, but they didn't find a sign and they didn't know who was the gods favourite. One day Remus made fun of Romulus and they got in a fight, Remus died because of Romulus. Romulus made a city on Palatine hill and named it Roma after himself! Rome was ruled by kings and Romulus was supposedly the first king. The very last king of Rome was Tarquin the proud. Rome then suddenly became a republic and as the days passed the republic got more powerful and stronger.  The republic didn’t allow one person to have complete control of the people and the whole city, they let a group of men called Senators share power.
