My Recount of Folly Farm by Paige Bowen

Last Thursday year 5 and year 6 went on a class trip to Folly Farm. We went on the trip to find out more about African animals, such as Lion's, Rhino's and Giraffes. Everyone was wearing comfy clothes, because it was going to be a long day.

It took about an hour on the bus to get to Folly Farm and when we arrived, we went for a talk about the Lions for half ab hour, where we found out many interesting facts, such as they live for 10-15 years and they are carnivores, which means they eat meat. They also showed us a live video of Lions and other animals in Africa.

After the Lions, we went to see Rhinos. Nervously, we went to see the Rhinos in their enclosure. They are very large, and did you know that Rhinos communicate through doing a poo? They are also very fast and can run up to 40mph, which is the same as an average car speed. Also white and black rhinos are all actually grey!

I loved seeing the Meerkats, very much. They live in 'gangs' of approx 20 meerkats and can live up to 14 years old. Did you know there patterns on the coats are unique like our fingerprints? I found this very interesting.

We later moved onto the Giraffes, who are very graceful when they walk. Giraffes drink up to 12 gallons of water per day and eat herbivore diet, which is mainly leaves. They can grow up to 6 meters tall, which is about the size of my house and live up to around 25 years old.

My favourite part of the day was seeing the Meerkats, as they are very cute and fluffy, and I liked they stay together as a group. I had a great day in Folly Farm with all of my class and would love to go again one day.
