The early years
In the early days of radio, when there was only 3 or 4 channels, everyone had an old, clunky radio. One of the major reasons radios were so much larger then they are now is that they used amplifiers, but more recently they've started using transistors.

same thing as amplifiers, but
they also act like a switch at the same time.
Amplifiers
Amplifiers, which are more informally known as amps, is an electronic device that can increase the power of a signal.
The first AI
The logic theorist, which may be considered as the first AI program, was designed by Alan Newell, Herbert A.Simon and Cliff Shaw in 1955. It was the first program deliberately engineered to mimic the problem solving skills of a human being and is called "the first artificial intelligence program".
The AI winter
During the 1970's, the UK government and the USA government stopped funding artificial intelligence companies. This meant that the progression of artificial intelligence stalled. This time period is known as the AI Winter.

AI became a valuable commercial tool during this time period. Many companies employ expert computer systems for particular tasks and save millions of dollars.
Scientist Rodney Brooks was inspired by advances in neuroscience; from that he presented the potential benefit of building artificial neural networks.
An IBM built machine called Deep Blue defeated the world chess champion Gary Kasparov.
Google's voice recognition software uses artificial neural networks to improve its accuracy by 80%.
History is made by an IBM made machine once again, as Watson (the IBM machine) defeats its human competitors on a quiz show.
Google Deepmind is an AI algorithm creating company. Their AI AlphaGo defeats Go grandmaster Lee Sedol.
Sophia
Sophia is a humanoid robot. A humanoid robot technically means that she is specially built to have actions similar to a human. She is able to answer certain questions; they must be on specific topics.
Running on a voice recognition software interface from Alpahbet (Google), her code platform can be accessed by anyone in the world as long as they have a computer.
She was activated on April 19, 2015; since then she has been impressing the people of our world. In October 2017, the robot became a Saudi Arabia citizen, the first robot to receive citizenship of any country.

Nao
Nao, which was ceated by Awldebaran robotics (bought by SoftBank robotics),is a robot that is kind, friendly and interactive. It has three purposes: to bring research information to the wold; to entertain humans; and to educate children.
Although it may not look like it, Nao is actually a humanoid robot, as its actions are extremely similair to that of a human's. As you can see from the video above, Nao is 23 inches (58 centimetres) tall. It also has spatial recognition.
His legs have been specially built to hold his body weight of 4.3 kilograms.
