The Mona Lisa
As I mentioned in my last blog the most famous painting in the world is the Mona Lisa so I have decided to give you a little more information about it.
The most famous painting in the world is the Mona Lisa which was painted by Leonardo da Vinci. He began painting this masterpiece in the year of 1503 or 1504 and then finished shortly before he died in 1519. He had named his painting after a wealthy lady from Florence named Lisa Del Giocondo. In 1911 the Mona Lisa was then STOLEN by an employee named Vincenzo Peruggia, an Italian Patriot. Once he had completed his mission of stealing the painting he then kept it in his apartment for 2 years. The point of all this chaos was that Vincenzo believed that the Mona Lisa belonged back in Italy. After keeping it in his apartment for 2 whole years he was then caught when attempting to sell it to the directors of Uffizi Gallery in Florence. It was then taken to the louvre in Paris were it hangs today were 6 million people see it each year!
