The Launceston castle



The Launceston castle was built by Robert the count of mortain after 1068. it was rebuilt in stone in the 12th

century and substantially redeveloped by Richard of Cornwall after 1227, including a high tower to enable Vistors view his sarrounding lands. when Richards son Edmund inherited , he moved the earldoms administrations to Lostwithiel, triggering the castles decline. By 1337 the castle was increasingly ruinous.


The castle was captured by the rebels during the prayer rebelian book in 1549, and was garrisoned by the royalists by the English civil war in the 17 th century.

during the second world war the host was used to hold united states solders, and later it was used as a airministry office. The ministry left in 1956 and the site was reopend for visitors.
