A dramatic end

Today everyone has gathered at the monument to celebrate the ending of 2020. There were going to be fireworks and a vast feast, before the major announced there will be no celebration, no feast, no fireworks, no nothing at all. Everyone had wondered why, but the major wouldn't spill any secrets. As he evacuated everyone out with no caption, a large firework sound had dramatically exploded behind them. Sadly half had not survived and the rest had been injured, Not a great start to 2021 is it? Unless it was the goodbyes of 2020?
