On 8th June 2017 the General Election was hosted. It works in a very specific and complicated way. First of all, there is one polling station in every constituency in the UK where people over the age of 18 cast their vote on who they want as their new member of Parliament. To vote you mark an "X" a small sheet of paper which you then put in the ballot box. The vote is then later counted. If the party wins a seat in the House of Commons that vote is then counted as point for one of the parties. If a political party reaches the target of 326 votes, the leader of that party is then made the new Prime Minister of the UK. So far no party has reached the top goal of 326 votes. If this happens a party will join forces with another political party. This is also known as a coalition. The party with the most amount of votes wins, even though they may not reach the reach a majority. This will then become a hung parliament. The leader of that party becomes Prime Minister.
