A Trip to Sutton Hoo

When I went to Sutton Hoo on Saturday 19th of

September I saw a lot of huge burial mounds.

At first they just looked like grassy hills surrounded by oversized toadstools but then we found out that treasure, people and even ships were buried under what seemed at first to be an ordinary field.

The treasures that were found were all Anglo Saxon, which includes a helmet, one of the world's biggest shields and an iron axe hammer.

We think that most of these treasures were buried with the greatest Anglo Saxon king Raedwald about thirteen hundred years ago.

The largest article that was found was a ship that has been buried with the grand Anglo Saxon king inside as well as food, treasure and animal skins.

I was most interested in the body preserved under glass in the floor of the exhibition hall. It was in a really awkward position, lying down but its arms were contorted. I was interested in that because there was a piece of writing behind it describing that sometimes before death people would have been tortured and that's why they were in awkward positions when they were buried.

I found out that Anglo Saxons, though thought to be ruthless people actually cared a lot about their design, even on swords and axes.

I would recommend Sutton Hoo for people who are interested in this period in history.
