1919

It all started when the Arch Duke (Franz Ferdhinand) was shot in Bosnia. He was about to become king of Austria-Hungary and Serbia. The Serbian people did not want to be ruled by Autria-Hungary so one of the people decided to do something about it.Gavrilo Princip shot Franz Ferdhinand and his wife in their car.

Gavrilo said, "I am the son of peasants and I know what is

happening in the villages. That is why I decided to take

revenge and I regret nothing." Then, Austria- Hungary

declared war on Serbia. Serbia then declared war Austria

-Hungary and asked Russia for help. Russia accepted and

asked Germany, but Germany declined. Germany was

Quite a young country and wanted more. The German

Kaiser wanted a bigger empire like Britain and became

jealous. So they decided to form an alliance with Austria-

Hungary. They called themselves the central powers.

Years later many other countries joined the war such as;

Italy, America and many more

France formed an alliance with Russia and Joined the war.

Germany created the Shleiffen plan which was to go through

Belgium to attack France and then by

the time Russia got their army ready they would be back.

Sadly, Britain had formed an alliance with Belgium. The

Shleiffen plan did not work and Britain and France won against Germany! Basicly, it could have been a war between two countries but because of alliances, almost the whole world got involved!
