What are the functions of the Veins, Arteries and Capillaries?

Veins

Blood flows through a system of blood vessels, which are veins and arteries. Arteries carry blood rich in oxygen from your heart to all regions of the body. The function of veins is to transport the blood back to the heart.

Arteries

Arteries are strong tubes, or vessels, that carry blood from your heart to the rest of your body. Arteries transport blood containing oxygen and nutrients to smaller tubes called arterioles, which then deliver blood to even smaller vessels called capillaries.

Capillaries

Capillaries have very thin walls with holes in them, so fluid and small molecules like sugar and waste can move in and out. This is the site where the actual exchange of water, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nutrients occurs.
