WAR II
D-DAY
It was a normal morning in 1939 on 4th September at eleven o`clock when the prime minister Neville Chamberlain declared war on Germany because Adolf Hitler did not take his troops away from Poland.
After Neville Chamberlain declared war on Hitler, Germany started to produce weapons and big bombers to bomb London.
Even Britain started to produce weapons and
canons to take down the German bombers.
At that time Britain got hit very badly so they called for help from the Americans.
In 1942 Hitler's troops had taken power of France but the allies (America and Britain) had a plan to destroy the Nazis.
But the Nazis had a powerful gun: it was the big Gustav canon. It was 60 metres in length and had a width of 4 metres.
Only three of these guns were built and only one of them was fired before the allies destroyed it.
In 1943 the American and British soldiers were
traning for the D-Day landing.
Children and wives said their last goodbye.
But the Allies weren't the only ones that trained - even the Nazis trained.
While the Americans were finding a way to attack Normandy the Germans were preparing
defences to protect the German troops from the Allies.
123 of these guns were put on the beach.
These guns shoot 25 shots per second.
142,000+ American and German solders died for serving there country.
Utah and Omaha Beach were the most brutal. On Utah and Omaha there were only American soldiers. Gold and Sword had only British soldiers and on Juno there were Canadian soldiers.
6th June 1944
400 yards away were German guns shooting 123 shots per second aiming towards them as the doors of the landing crafts opened. As American, British and Canadian soldiers were getting destroyed the American bombers helped the soldiers on the ground by destroying the Nazis that had the guns that were shooting at the Allied soldiers.
