How do astronauts exercise in space ?

On earth our muscles and bones are working against gravity. Working without gravity affects your bones, heart, lungs and muscles. Astronauts spend two hours a day exercising in space. Astronauts use three pieces of equipment in space.

Treadmills are used to pretend you are walking and running. Walking is an important way to keep bones and muscles healthy.

Cycle Ergometer this is like a bicycle and the activity is pedaling.This helps to strenghten your bones and muscles.

Resistance Exercise Devise ( RED ) this looks like a weight lifting machine. It is used to work your whole body and help to increase your blood flow.
