Welcome to the Rights Respecting School Page!

At Ashmount we are really excited to be working towards being recognised as a Rights Respecting School. The “Rights Respecting Award”is given to schools on behalf of UNICEF and is based on the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child.

The convention is made up of 46 articles (or rights) that children have in order to survive, grow and participate to their full potential. A Rights Respecting School puts these rights at the heartof a school’s ethos and vision.

By learning about their rights, our pupils will also learn about their accompanying responsibilities, to ensure that all children have access to their rights. Doing this, we believe, will help our pupils become confident, caring and responsible young people both in school and in the wider world.

Our Journey So Far…

Children have the right to know their rights (Article 42)

The school year started with an assembly about children’s wants and needs and how all children have rights. This assembly was followed by classes thinking about what they need to survive, grow and reach their full potential. Children were then introduced to the UNCRC Articles.

Year 2 Discussing their wants and needs as an introduction to the rights of the child.
